The Classroom Choices, "Jobs" Joy of Learning
Learning is individualized and self-motivation is viewed as the only valid impulse to learning. Therefore, the classroom is designed to capture and stimulate the potential for learning. Classrooms are rich with authentic Montessori materials. The furniture and general appeal is at the student's level. There prevails an openness in the room, an atmosphere of spontaneous activity of students at work and play. Activities and learning areas are sequentially planned to provide each student with the appropriate stimulus, respecting the varying needs of each child. Students can enjoy working alone or exploring learning activities with other students.

"This system in which a child is constantly moving objects with his hands and actively exercising his senses, also takes into account a child's special aptitude for mathematics. When they leave the material, the children very easily reach the point where they wish to write out the operation. They thus carry out an abstract mental operation and acquire a kind of natural and spontaneous inclination for mental calculations."
The Discovery of the Child, Dr. Maria Montessori
